What originally got you into collecting cards? My love for cards began as a child. The boom of the 80′s and particularly the hype of 1989 got me excited all over again. Being a life-long Cubs fan, I had just as much fun chasing Jerome Walton rookies as I did Ken Griffey, Jr. rookies! As they say, “one thing led to another.”
When did you open your store? We opened our store in March of 1991.
Does your store specialize in particular type of cards or memorabilia? We carry all sports cards but have a special emphasis in local autographs, memorabilia & licensed goods. Lots of Ravens, Orioles and Baltimore Colts items for sale (the Cubs stuff goes home)! We have strong relationships with many of the Orioles and Colts Hall of Famers. Many of them have appeared in store for public autograph signings including all of the Hall of Famers. We also carry magic, Yugioh and Pokemon collectible card games and support magic with weekly tournaments.
What is your favorite part about running your own card shop? Helping to share and encourage the fun of parents & children enjoying a hobby together. My favorite event that we run (and we run many) is our monthly Pack Wars. Having a young adult return to the store to say hello and reminisce about their times spent at the DugoutZone always brings a smile to my face.
